Super Bowl Teaser Ads

The Marketing Goods

As I wrote about before, I love the Super Bowl for the ads. The football is pretty good too, but it’s a time where TV ads can shine.  This year, teaser ads are making a big impact.  The first one released was “The Bark Side” by Volkswagen.  This was on the heels for the ad they released last year: The Force.

The VW teaser ad, is part of a larger campaign where you can go to their website and create your own Super Bowl invitation.  Pretty nifty.

The second ad, is a 10 second potential “Ferris Bueller 2″ ad, for a yet unnamed sponsor. The social networks have been a buzz with guessing on who the sponsor is.  Since there is no scheduled Ferris Bueller 2” movie in production according to Matthew Broderick’s IMDB page, some sponsor paid enticed Matthew Broderick to appear in their spot.  I really…

At A Month’s End

Nature Turning Against Mankind

The night last night was strange and shaken:
More strange the change of you and me.
Once more, for the old love’s love forsaken,
We went out once more toward the sea.
For the old love’s love-sake dead and buried,
One last time, one more and no more,
We watched the waves set in, the serried
Spears of the tide storming the shore.
Hardly we saw the high moon hanging,
Heard hardly through the windy night
Far waters ringing, low reefs clanging,
Under wan skies and waste white light.
With chafe and change of surges chiming,
The clashing channels rocked and rang
Large music, wave to wild wave timing,
And all the choral water sang.
Faint lights fell this way, that way floated,
Quick sparks of sea-fire keen like eyes
From the rolled surf that flashed, and noted
Shores and faint cliffs and bays and skies.
The ghost of sea…

Confessions of a Knee Jerk

Have dog blog will travel

this thurs. i took cici to the vet… she has been hopping for two weeks now.  i was hoping that he’d tell me it was nothing to worry about…  just a little strain or something.

i was wrong.

people have called me a knee jerk liberal, baby boomer, hippie and God knows what else, but now I guess I am not alone in my knee jerk reaction (sorry, for the bad jokes)…

Cici tore a ligament and will need surgery.  She also has arthritis. I asked if she could have caught my arthritis and he said no. she is still young, only five and a half. I thought that dogs don’t get conditions like this until they are 12+ when they are seniors.  Wrong again.

it is not related to the car accident/surgeries she had 4 years ago. Her femur bone has healed beautifully he said.

Să nu urăşti. Creanga, piatra şi vântul. Iubeşte. Lumina şi căldura

tudorvisanmiu

“Să nu urăşti. […] Pentru ce ţi-ai complica şi chinui vieaţa cu patimă, care te poate împinge la acţiuni greşite ori excesive? Urăşti oare creanga care te răneşte? Piatra care te face să aluneci? Vântul care îţi biciuie faţa? Rupi creanga; azvârli piatra; întorci spatele vântului, – şi atât.” – C.Banu, “Grădina lui Glaucon” (XVII)

Furtuna zice…

 Furtuna zice: Eu cunosc

Pe oameni că le sunt duşmană!

 Iar bruma zice: Îi cunosc

Şi eu, că ‘n suflet le fac rană!

 Dar soarele râdea: ‘i cunosc

Mai bine eu, că le dau hrană!

(Poezie de Carmen Sylva)

 MORALA

University of Virginia should disclose climate emails

Those who say man alone is responsible for overheating the planet frequently dismiss any role the sun might play. As can be seen in an ongoing freedom-of-information lawsuit leveled against the University of Virginia (UVA), sunshine is precisely what the heralds of climate catastrophe fear most of all.

The American Tradition Institute (ATI) is going after 12,000 emails sent or received by Michael E. Mann while he was on the staff of the publicly-funded university. Mr. Mann is famous for coming up with one of the “tricks” used to “hide the decline” in global temperatures. On Wednesday, ATI released a small selection of emails it hopes will convince a Prince William County judge that full disclosure of the rest is in the public interest.

In March 2003, for example, a trusted colleague of

French, except Sarkozy, want troops out of Afghanistan

Dear Kitty. Some blog

Peace demonstrators

By Olivier Laurent in France:

France pulls back from immediate Afghanistan troop withdrawal

28 January 2012

President Nicolas Sarkozy will keep French troops in Afghanistan despite rising popular opposition in France to the NATO occupation following the January 20 deaths of four French soldiers, killed while they were training Afghan soldiers.

The attack that killed the French soldiers was carried out by a 21-year-old Afghan soldier with no direct links to the Taliban. He said that he decided to do it after seeing a video showing several American soldiers urinating on the heads of dead Afghans. (See “Ten NATO troops killed in Afghanistan“)

The reactions of the dead soldiers’ families highlighted widespread popular hostility to the French presence in France. A sister of one of the deceased soldiers told RTL Radio: “It’s Nicolas Sarkozy’s fault that my brother died. He should bring everybody out of…

Ethics Alarms

The discussion on Ethics Alarms has been especially lively, diverse and interactive this week, and I want to thank all who participated for their time, passion, reason and civility. My goal has always been to foster better ethical analysis through dialogue, and I consider what I read the past several days to be a significant advance. I am grateful to everyone, especially so because it has been a hectic and difficult period for me.

I also am aware that the typos have been proliferating again, and I apologize to all. It is irritating, not to mention confusing, to have to read posts with errors, and it is unprofessional for me to allow the errors to occur. There can be no excuse for it, and I am truly sorry. Unfortunately, I can’t type, I have always been a poor speller, and I am an even worse proof-reader of my own work…

A Visit With a Shelter Volunteer Pt. 2

Rumpydog

Oh Dog! I’m so glad you came back for part 2!  Today we meet Cindy, another volunteer at PAWS in Norwalk Connecticut.  Cindy works with dogs, so we’re going to find out what her experience has been!  Help me give a warm welcome to Cindy!!!

Rumpy:  Thanks for being my guest today Cindy.  How about you tell us what got you into to volunteering at PAWS.

Cindy:  For almost three years, I drove by a place called PAWS during my daily commute. I was tempted to stop in, but anxious at the same time. I had no idea what their philosophy was, and I had never volunteered at a shelter before – were they no-kill? Did they help all animals or just the “cream of the crop” as so many places do?  So, I did my research and found out that they were, in fact, no-kill.

I also…

BROAD INSTITUTE LANDS $32.5 MILLION GRANT FOR CELL CIRCUIT RESEARCH

2012 GRANT & FUNDRAISING NEWS

The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT (“the Broad”) today announced that it has received a $32.5M grant from the Boston-based Klarman Family Foundation to support a new collaborative effort focused on deciphering how human cells are wired.

This grant will allow the scientific community to expand its understanding of how biological decisions are made in health and disease, paving the way for major treatment breakthroughs.

“Creating a complete catalog of cell circuitry will ultimately have a huge impact on our ability to understand and treat disease,” said Broad Institute Director Eric Lander. “The Klarmans are laying the foundation for what I predict will grow eventually into a worldwide effort, with the same spirit and vision of the Human Genome Project. This is a bold step by two extraordinary philanthropists.”

The Klarman Family Foundation grant will launch the Klarman Cell Observatory (“the Observatory”) at the Broad…

Mitt Romney’s “Blind Trust” Excuse (Videos)

The Daley Gator

In 1994, Mitt Romney made several interesting statements concerning blind trusts. Here are three of them.

“A United States senator has an obligation to tell its blind trust what it cannot and can invest in.” – Associated Press 10/18/94

“The blind trust is an age-old ruse. You give a blind trust rules. You can say to a blind trust, don’t invest in properties which would be in conflict of interest or where the seller might think they’re going to get an advantage from me.” – Boston Globe 10/19/94

“It’s a conflict of interest pure and simple – and it’s wrong for a U.S. senator. The fact that it’s a blind trust does not hide it.” – Boston Herald 10/19/94

Fast-forward to January 26, 2012. In the final Florida GOP primary debate, Romney defended his investments in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac by saying, “First of all, my investments are…

THE SPANISH MADONNA’S FAN ARRESTED FOR THE LEAK SPEAKS TO “EL PAIS”

squaremadonna

The Spanish Madonna’s Fans arrested for the leak finally speaks!

It’s midday when Jorge is prepared to open his small appliances store. Nothing makes suspect that this young 31 years old guy with any criminal record and well-knowed in his neighbourhood will be mentioned by Madonna as “her hacker”.
What happened to this guy to make him feel deeply disappointed with his idol? Operation Madonnaleaks – triggered by the leak of Gimme All Your Love – has blown his fan-love down. He used to go to all Madonna’s concerts in the last 20 years and to collect press trimmings and other rarities as only a fan could do.
Maybe behind his life there’s the “attraction law”, with dangerous and not always predictable consequences summarized in the sentence “be careful with what you desire”. Or maybe it’s the last marketing operation of Her Madgesty, Madonna Ciccone.
Let’s remind the acts. Last…

WashPost Columnist: Occupy DC Protesters Just Like Yogi Bear

PA Pundits - International

By Ken Shepherd ~

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Yogi Bear lived in squalor in an urban park picking fights with the cops, urinating in public, and vexing local coffee shop owners and patrons.

But Washington Post Metro columnist Robert McCartney today romanticized the average Occupy DC squatter as reminiscent of “one of [his] childhood heroes,” Yogi Bear.

“Like Yogi, the activists live cheerfully in national parks They regularly get away with breaking the rules. Most of all, they drive the authorities batty,” McCartney noted in a January 26 column spurred on by Tuesday’s House subcommittee about the National Park Service’s laissez faire approach whereby the Park Police are not enforcing a ban on camping in McPherson Square, an urban park in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C.

Closing his column, McCartney hailed how “several McPherson demonstrators” have said they are open to a “compromise”…

Australia’s Summer is taking a Battering from La Nina Again.

Chaos Sweeps Away the World We Know! The Disaster, current events & Catastrophe Blog. Forecasts for 2014 to 2022. Read tomorrows news today! Plus current economic, commodities, stock indices and financial news.

January 27, 2012 –Australia’s summer is taking a battering from La Niña again: Last year, heavy rainfall brought devastating floods to large swathes of the country that could knock half a percentage point off fiscal 2011’s gross domestic product. The city of Brisbane was submerged and the country’s all-important resources sector suffered project delays and costly wash-outs.

So far this year, the weather has been less severe, but the economic impact is still a concern. Western Australia and parts of Queensland have experienced rainfall as high as two to three times the norm. The risk of tropical cyclones is high and adverse conditions could last for months.

The Reserve Bank of Australia has warned that continuing rain could hamper the recovery of coal exports from last year’s floods. But the bigger impact could be on the agricultural sector.

The 2011-12 wheat harvest in Western…

Licart: sursă de prospături

Criticul Foto

Birdman To Wager $5 Million On Patriots

ThatsDopeDaily

Cash Money Records General Brian “Birdman aka Baby” Williams has wagered $5 million on Tom Brady and the Patriots in this years Super Bowl. Birdman stated “I like New England because BenJarvus Green-Ellis is my nephew. I plan on wagering $5 million on the game to anyone who wants the action.” This is not Birdman’s first time putting up a big wager, He lost $2 million last year on betting on the Miami Heat but won $1 million on the Packers in last years super bowl. With making $15 million alone last year and a net worth of over $100 million dollars, $5 millie is chump change to Brian. Birdman has also vowed he plans on putinng $10 million on Mayweather whenever he fights Manny Pacquiao, which in my opinion is a fucking retarded bet.

Two interesting facts about Birdman:

*He tries to wear over $1 million worth of grills and…

Humorous UPS Mechanic… contrib by Dean L.

allaboutlemon-All Around, In, And Out Of My Own Universe

Humorous UPS Mechanic

Just in case you need a laugh: Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a high school diploma to fix one…a reassurance to

those of us who fly routinely in our jobs.

After every flight, UPS pilots fill out a form, called a ‘gripe sheet,’ which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight.

Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by UPS’ pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers.

By the way, UPS is the only major airline that has never, /ever/, had an accident.

Here goes:

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.

S: Almost replaced…
