Music from the US – Whitney Houston †

World Music - the Music Journey

I think everyone heard about Whitney Houston’s dead this morning. At all, she was born in 1963, and was an US-american soul, pop and gospel singer. A few years ago, she started using drugs(I really can’t understand why doing this!!!) and got many personal struggles. Here’s maybe her most famous song “I will always love you“:

So RIP. Whitney Houston!

Amazing…What People Think Entrepreneurs Do

Uncrunched

Just saw this on Michael Rubin’s Facebook stream. Amazing. And totally accurate.

I’d just add one more – “What Nick Bilton thinks entrepreneurs do” (just kidding Nick, you know I love you):

Where I Come From

Nae's Nest

Where I come from

Women are down to earth

Men are blue-collar workers

Endless self-worth

The value of life

Is not measured in gold

Every life is priceless

And worth to behold

Every child worthy

Of home, health and happiness

Every person deserving

Love and acceptance

This is the way

Where I come from

The only ones unwelcome

Are those who cause harm

Those with hearts

Grown hard with time

Filled with hate

Wrath and crime

Just pass on by

If this is you

You will not be accepted

You will be one of the few

Celebrité: Whitney updates and celebrity drug abuse

2PF

It’s being reported that Whitney Houston was found in the bathtub and that prescription pills were also found. Allegedly, at this point the theory remains that she took a Xanax and either overdosed or drowned. She was supposed to attend Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party.

Her mother, Cissy Houston and her aunt, singer Dionne Warwick talked to her just 25 minutes before she was pronounced dead. They said they didn’t suspect anything, as they all chatted about Davis’ party and other things.

Celebrities and drug use

I can’t help but wonder who the next celebrity will be to lose their life after a battle with drugs. And yes, I swear everyone’s first thought is Lindsay Lohan. After Amy Winehouse and now Whitney Houston, it will be astonishing if Lindsay Lohan doesn’t try to seriously clean up her act. Sadly, I think she’s too far gone and surrounded by terrible people (her…

CORK

Nae's Nest

Spending time in a bottle

Such a good idea it seemed

A clever and fun vacation

Human Time Machine

Spending time in a bottle

Such a romantic thought

Turned into a nightmare

For our lives we fought

Making poor decisions

Though heart in right place

Equally poor minds

Got us stuck in this place

My man and I

In our own floating paradise

Enough supplies for months

A romantic place designed for us

Free of worries and strain

No reason to complain

Had hoped for a dream vacation

Where we could escape

Go to  a happy place

But then, it had to happen

Nobody to blame

but me!

I lost the cork to our bottle!

I popped it out into the sea!

I thought it was tied on

Oh God, I am such a moron!

It was hot in here!

I just wanted to  cool off

We were never told…

Fromage of the Day, 02.11.12: Entelbucher Schwingerkase

The Joy of Cheese

Fromage of the Day, 02.11.12: Entelbucher Schwingerkase.  Nutty, grassy, and sweet, this cow’s milk “wrestler’s cheese” is from Switzerland.  It pairs nicely with your favorite Gewurztraminer, a Schlenkerla Helles, an Isastegi Cider, or a Whistlepig Rye.  If it was an Allison Miller composition, it would be “Big Lovely,” brimming with sprawling flavors.  The Joy of Cheese late winter events begin February 21 at Breukelen Bier Merchants with Cheese and Beer Rules Again.  For details visit here, https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/224366

PHILIP TREACY MADE MADONNA’S GLADIATOR SUPER BOWL HAT

squaremadonna

MADONNA turned to the talents of Irish milliner Philip Treacy for her flamboyant Super Bowl look.

The pop diva, who has long been a fan of the award-winning designer, wore an intricate gold headpiece that was custom made to complete her gladiator look.

The piece was encrusted with diamonds and based on designs by Riccardo Tisci.

It is rumoured to have taken several days to assemble, and has received praise worldwide for its meticulous design.

Madonna’s association with Philip Treacy goes back further than a decade. In 2001, she caused outrage when she was pictured sporting a €1,200 hat he had made from the pelts of five foxes.

Snow On Sandringham Crescent: Saturday 4 February (365.360° Day 214)

Rob Cartwright Photography | 2011/12 Photoaday Challenge

Though it may not look like it (mainly due to the 90 second exposure used), the snow was coming down like crazy on the green I used to play for hours on as a kid, just down the road from my parent’s house in Norfolk. My camera was soaking (good thing it’s weatherproof!) and – courtesy of a brutal windchill – my hands felt like they were going to drop off, in spite of the fact that I was only out shooting for about 10 minutes!

The snow was truly stunning in this newly fallen, untouched state.

That Jobs Thing Sure Didn’t Last Long

PA Pundits - International

By Paul Driessen ~

President Obama “is focused like a laser on putting people back to work,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) assured us last fall – echoing repeated statements by President Obama and Administration officials who “can’t wait” for Congress or others to take action and create jobs.

The jobs thing didn’t last long, however. The President soon vetoed TransCanada’s application for permits to build the Keystone XL pipeline. Approving them “would not be in the national interest,” he declared.

It is hard for most Americans to understand how it is contrary to the national interest to create 20,000 construction and manufacturing jobs, increase US gross domestic product by an estimated $350 billion, and bring 830,000 barrels of oil per day via pipeline from friend and neighbor Canada to Texas refineries. It’s hard for us to grasp how pipelining Canadian oil is worse than importing oil in much riskier…

ACTA: Process Of Depersonalization

Undead Infinity

I was just reading Google’s announce about their new Privacy Policy – and how it will be collected information about the individual who uses the service (private stuff like phone number or credit card codes) and also information about your own PC, type of hardware. And I was like – shit…son this really is crazy – because I won’t feel secure knowing that somewhere out there someone is constantly monitoring my virtual log-on.

Also – your search terms, the pages you visited, practically every word you type on your keyboard will be stored somewhere for others to see. That’s fucked up because it will annihilate my personality, my most intimate thoughts will be made public.

In that moment I realized once again that ACTA isn’t something I would embrace.

Let’s say that I will search for some Japanese lessons online – and I will spend some time on these sites…
