Michigan: Holland and “Big Red”, I’m back!!!

The Adventures of elATLboy

The last stop on my recent day of Michigan lighthouse, beach and park hopping along Lake Michigan was Holland. It followed Musekgon and Grand Haven. Being at Holland State Park, before on this visit I decided to capture some shots first out on the open sandy sidewalk heading towards the north pier.

Holland, Michigan, Holland State Park beach, Lake Michigan

The sand retreated off the sidewalk onto the beach as I got closer and I soon wound up on…

…the narrow bridge that lead to the pier.

The end of the walking and North Pier Light were in sight.

Holland, Michigan, north pier, Lake Michigan

The narrow pier has no barriers and rocks on both sides. The wind had died down from earlier in the day so it was a stress free walk out on the open pier! 🙂

The pier widens right before the light. I got some closeup shots.

Teacher Savagely Assaults Student, Chases Others Into Hallway And Masturbates In Front Of Them

The Daley Gator

A 55-year-old teacher at Seoul High School in South Korea has been jailed after he allegedly beat up a student, then immediately went into a hallway and masturbated in front of passing students.

According to the Seoul Department of Education, the teacher became irate when he noticed that a student was listening to music through a set of headphones during class.

The teacher, identified only as “Mr. A”, severely beat the student while other students fled the classroom.

“Mr. A” then reportedly chased students out into the hallway where he immediately dropped his pants and began masturbating. A student in the hallway captured video of the event on his cell phone and uploaded it to various social networking sites.

When questioned about the incident, “Mr A” reportedly denied masturbating and insisted that his pants fell down as he ran after the students. The teacher’s story fell flat when school administrators…

UNITED NATIONS – Syrian envoy Bashar al-Ja’afari announced Tuesday that a new chemical attack has occurred in a small town near its border with Turkey.

Ja’afari claimed that, as the Syrian army was making gains on the territory against rebel forces in the north, plastic bags filled with white powder were distributed. The powders produced symptoms among residents associated with the effects caused by chemical weapons, he said.

“The victims were transported into Turkey to be treated in Turkish hospitals and then, of course, today or tomorrow you will hear again that the Turkish government has new tools indicating that the Syrian government used chemical weapons…

Obama Sounds Out Senate GOP for Deficit Deal.

Rivers of Hope

While most of Washington is focused on confrontations over gun control and immigration law, the White House is quietly exploring the possibility of striking a deal with lawmakers to rein in the nation’s budget deficits.

President Barack Obama’s chief of staff Denis McDonough went to Capitol Hill last week for meetings with more than a dozen Republican senators on deficit-reduction proposals, according to White House and Senate aides.

Obama, who has held a pair of dinners with Republican senators over the last two months, is betting on finding a middle ground for a fiscal deal in the Senate even as House Republican leaders map out a strategy that could heighten the risk of a U.S. default later this year.

“The odds are not exceedingly high” for a deal, said David Plouffe, a former senior Obama adviser who left the White House in January. Still, Plouffe said, discussions about a…

Amanda Knox’s Diane Sawyer Interview: Court Ruling Is ‘Painful’

Hollywood Life

The 25-year-old says she wants to be ‘reconsidered as a person’ in her first appearance since being cleared of all charges in 2011. Unfortunately, Amanda’s now facing the possibility of a retrial. Watch the preview of her exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer, airing April 30 at 10 p.m. on ABC.

Amanda Knox, who spent 1,400 days in an Italian prison after being convicted of murdering her college roommate, Meredith Kercher, in 2007, says that what happened to her “could have happened to anybody,” and that her experience in Italy was “surreal.” An Italian appeals court overturned the ruling in 2011, and Amanda now wants to be “reconsidered as a person.” However, that may prove to be difficult since Italy’s highest court last month overturned their acquittal. Amanda now faces a retrial.

Surprise Israeli military drill on Syrian, Lebanese borders. Reservists mobilized

Surprise Israeli military drill on Syrian, Lebanese borders. Reservists mobilized.

Israel’s Golan border with Syria

Israel’s armed forces launched a snap division-scale drill along the full length of the Syrian and Lebanese borders Tuesday, April 30, with call-up orders for thousands of reservists, debkafile’s military sources report.

It was taken into account that the unannounced exercise would send military tensions shooting up on the volatile Israeli, Jordanian, Syrian and Lebanese borders. Moscow, Tehran, Damascus and Hizballah headquarters would assume that Israel is massing troops in advance of US military intervention in Syria.
Its timing is also connected to the speech Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah is scheduled to deliver Tuesday night in case he announces military steps against Israel.
Our Washington sources report that President Barack Obama is poised for a…

Does God Ever Change His Mind?.

Rivers of Hope

All people are fickle, in varying degrees. I suspect we’d be shocked to learn how many times in the course of a normal day we change our plans, reverse course, or pull out an eraser to delete an appointment or a task we had set for the week. Changing our minds feels so natural to us as humans, it’s hard to envision life without it. In most instances the changes are harmless and typically result from unforeseeable circumstances, as well as the alterations that other people make that directly affect us. But what would it mean for God to change his mind? Does he? Could he? Or are all his plans and purposes immutable?

The importance of defining our theological terms with precision is most evident in the case of divine immutability. Here is a word that in contemporary evangelical circles evokes either protest or praise. Some see…

Was President George W. Bush Prophetic?.

Rivers of Hope

George W. Bush
President George W. Bush (Facebook)

This week, various political luminaries gathered in Dallas, Texas, to celebrate the presidency of George W. Bush, who presided over one of the most tumultuous periods in modern American history. Among liberals, Bush is considered a uniquely awful president, having led the United States into the ill-fated invasion and occupation of Iraq and having passed into law deep tax cuts that contributed to America’s present-day fiscal crunch.

Conservatives are more conflicted. Some dismiss him as a big-government conservative who failed to heed the wisdom of Goldwater and Reagan. Others, including many who served in the Bush administration, believe that as time passes, he will be lauded for his achievements. The complicated truth is that for all his flaws, George W. Bush had a better understanding of the challenges facing Republicans than most Obama-era conservatives. His rocky tenure is best understood as a testament to…

Boston Marathon Terrorists And Family Received $100,000 In Welfare Benefits

The Daley Gator

The Tsarnaev family, including the suspected terrorists and their parents, benefited from more than $100,000 in taxpayer-funded assistance – a bonanza ranging from cash and food stamps to Section 8 housing from 2002 to 2012, the Herald has learned.

“The breadth of the benefits the family was receiving was stunning,” said a person with knowledge of documents handed over to a legislative committee today.

The state has handed over more than 500 documents to the 11-member House Post Audit and Oversight Committee, which today met for the first time and plans to call in officials from the Department of Transitional Assistance to testify.

“I can assure members of the public that this committee will actively review every single piece of information we can find because clearly the public has a substantial right to know what benefits, if any, this family or individuals accused of some horrific crimes were receiving,” said…

Italy Faces a Shortage of Pizza Makers

A growing slice of Italy’s pizza makers are not actually Italian.

Despite a long recession and high unemployment, Italians may be less inclined to take pizza-making jobs because of the long hours and modest pay, according to the Telegraph.

According to a recent report by FIPE, an Italian business federation, the country needs roughly 6,000 “pizzaioli” in order to accommodate the booming pizza sector, NBC News reported.

(MORE:A Very Little Italy: Manhattan’s Famous District Gets a Trimming Down)

Although Italians may be reluctant to get their hands dirty in the pizza-making business, it looks like immigrants are now filling the country’s gap and producing an increasing share of the three billion pizzas consumed by Italians each year, the Telegraph reported.

Egyptians seem to have a knack for creating the perfect pie and are running many of the pizza restaurants and takeaways in cities like Rome…

North Korean Christians Plead: ‘Don’t Forget Us’.

Rivers of Hope

Ooberfuse (Facebook)

North Korea is the world’s most closed nation, ruled by one of the world’s most repressive regimes. Over 200,000 people remain in desperate conditions in the country’s prison camps, where they are subjected to extreme torture, slave labor, sexual abuse and starvation.

U.K.-based band Ooberfuse released “Vanish the Night,” a new song aimed at drawing attention to North Korea’s dire human rights crisis, to mark North Korea Freedom Week. The story of North Korean escapee Shin Dong-hyuk and the work of Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) inspired the song.

The song, “Vanish the Night,” begins with a message from Shin Dong-hyuk, who was born in a North Korean prison camp: “Don’t forget us.”

Christians are among the most oppressed in a country where there is no freedom of religion or belief. The U.N. Human Rights Council recently established a Commission of Inquiry to investigate crimes against…

There’s Going to Be a Navajo Translation of ‘Star Wars’

How do you say “May the Force be with you” in Navajo?

“May the force be with you,” might translate into “may you walk with great power,” or “may you have the power within you,” Laura Tohe, a fluent Navajo speaker and English professor at Arizona State University, told Yahoo. The correct translation of the famous movie phrase matters, because the 1977 sci-fi classic film, Star Wars or – if the online English to Dine translator can be trusted – Sǫʼ Baaʼ, is being translated into the Navajo language.

The Navajo Nation Museum and Lucasfilm are working together to dub Star Wars: A New Hope into the Navajo native language of Diné bizaad, a language spoken by around 210,000 people. Manuelito Wheeler, the director of the Navajo Nation Museum who approached Lucasfilm with the idea, sees the project as an entertaining and educational to preserve the Navajo language…

Venturing North: Haifa and the Golan Heights

Student travel with the Chazen Institute

Whenever I travel to a new country, I always appreciate it when I have the time to venture outside of the capital city and witness a contrasting experience of life there.  We’ve had such an opportunity in the second half of the Chazen Israel trip, in which we stopped in the industrial city of Haifa for several hours, followed by an evening at a kibbutz and a morning of exploration at Golan Heights.

Our first stop was a visit to Elbit Systems, the biggest private defense company in Israel with revenues of $2.8Bn, 13,000 employees worldwide, and a lot of R&D and international growth.  Tomer Goldberg ’13 had worked there before school and the company’s portfolio includes airborne systems, unmanned vehicles, homeland security, EW & countermeasures, ISR & EO systems, combat vehicle systems, and naval systems.  The presenters shared an in-depth view of their unmanned air vehicle systems, which…

Teen Mom Farrah Abraham Took Her Daughter To Shop Around Her Sex Tape

The title pretty much says it all.  Only part I left out is that she also took her Dad with her.  How fucking classy is that?  First deny it exists.  Then say it exists but you won’t sell it.  Then diss James Dean’s dick size, forgetting the fact that he’s made 1000s of videos and we all know he does not have a small dick.  Now she has a family business meeting with Dad and Daughter at Vivid Entertainment.  Love it.  She went from Teen Mom, to irrelevant, to Celeb Sex Taper, to Smut Mogul in the blink of an eye.  Says she won’t sell it for less than a couple million.  Respectable, because you literally have nothing else going in your life, a busted up vagina, and the IQ of an orange.

State prosecutors in Dresden, Germany, target anti-Nazi protesters

26 April 2013

The state prosecutor in Dresden is systematically targeting opponents of Nazi groups, in a region that is one of the centres of right-wing extremism in Germany. Along with Mecklenburg-Pomerania, Saxony is the only state where the neo-fascist German National Democratic Party (NPD) is represented in the state parliament.
