Rep. Kevin Brady: Our Enemies Will ‘Laugh’ at US in Syria.

Rivers of Hope

Rep. Kevin Brady, a deputy whip in the House, tells Newsmax TV that he still doesn’t have a “good feel” where his fellow Republicans stand on President Barack Obama’s request for military intervention in Syria but he believes our enemies will “laugh” at the U.S.

“Our real national security interest in the region is protecting our friend Israel,” the Texan said in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.

“What President Obama’s proposed is not the type of very strong, forceful military action necessary to deter North Korea and Iran from developing nuclear weapons,” he said. “They’ll laugh at this message and continue to build their weapons. I don’t see a reason to risk our military resources that are so precious on this ineffective mission.”

Brady and other Republican leaders have said they will not attempt to pressure members to vote a certain way on Syria since they consider the vote…

Rep. Duncan to Newsmax: Benghazi Questions Undermine Syrian Vote.

Rivers of Hope

Rep. Jeff Duncan told Newsmax Wednesday that he tied the four American deaths in Libya last year to Syria in an angry exchange with Secretary of State John Kerry because “the administration’s credibility is not real high now because of the failure to bring somebody to justice on Benghazi.”

“We don’t have questions answered about Benghazi, and then we’re going to turn around and put other men and women in harm’s way and in something where there is no clear indication of an imminent threat to the United States,” the South Carolina Republican told Newsmax in an exclusive interview.

Story continues below video.

“He didn’t want to answer, and I tried to make the connection between Benghazi and Syria by asking whether weapons were being funneled from the rebels that we supplied them to in Libya to the rebels in Syria,” Duncan added. “He didn’t answer that question.”

NYT: Rebel Forces Composed Of Increasing Criminal and Extremist Forces

JONATHAN TURLEY

Rebels-thumbWide-v3A New York Times story is challenging the image advanced by the White House that the rebels forces are largely moderates who are worthy of yet another military intervention by the United States. The story recounts the latest massacre of captured Syrian soldiers as a commander reads a menacing prayer over their clearly beaten bodies before executing them in violation of international law.

Relations Toxic Between US and Russia on Eve of G-20 Summit.

Rivers of Hope

Relations between Washington and the Kremlin have turned toxic on the eve of President Obama’s visit to the Group of 20 summit in St Petersburg.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called Secretary of State John Kerry a liar — and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel charged that Russia had supplied Syrian strongman Bashar Assad with the chemical weapons that were used to kill more than 1,000 people last month.

Meanwhile, Putin has denounced a potential U.S. attack on Syria as a violation of international law, and House Speaker John Boehner declined on Wednesday to meet with Russian diplomats who had hoped to directly lobby Congress to undercut President Barack Obama’s resolution on limited military strikes on Syria.

And, for his part, President Obama told reporters in Stockholm that the two countries’ relations have “hit a wall.” He is due in St. Petersburg, Putin’s hometown, on Thursday.

The two heads of…
