British exports including Damian Lewis, Benedict Cumberbatch and the Downton Abbey cast couldn’t compete with gritty US drama at the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards 2013, with Breaking Bad landing best drama and The Newsroom scoring acting gongs.
With Breaking Bad’s fifth and final season currently being broadcast, the AMC show has gone out on a high with the award, of which creator Vince Gilligan said: ‘I did not see this coming.’
