The Voice presenter Emma Willis: I married Matt for his great ‘laminated list’

Metro

Emma Willis says her rock star hubby, Matt, ended up marrying the woman he had always fantasised about on TV.

The blue-eyed stunner, fresh from hosting the CBB final, revealed she was on the McBusted singer’s ‘laminate list’ – where couples have a free pass to have an affair with a celeb they fancy.

‘It’s a cringeworthy story but before we met, “the girl from MTV with the eyes” was at the top of his list… and he meant me! I married him for that,’ she said.

And Willis says her 30-year-old husband doesn’t object to her top male choice. ‘It has always been Brad Pitt. Brad’s been there before Matt.

‘Brad’s been there since I was a teenager. So Matt is fine with that,’ she told Glamour magazine.

Having graduated from MTV long ago, the 37-year-old is relishing her role on the BBC’s hit talent show, The Voice.

Chinese Style Braised Beef

zOld - Ang Sarap (A Tagalog word for "It's Delicious")

Chinese Style Braised Beef

I remember the first time I tried and enjoyed this dish was from a Filipino-Chinese Fast Food restaurant called Chowking, a very tasty beef in sweet savoury Asian style sauce topped over a steaming hot jasmine rice. Packed with a lot of different flavourful sauces cooked slowly in a wok, a dish that is bit fuzzy and time consuming to prepare but the definitely it’s worth the wait.

Now for a bit of information sharing, for those who does not know, braising is a cooking method where meat is seared in high temperature then boiled in liquid in low simmering heat. This cooking method is common in Chinese and French cuisine, the methods are the same except for the utensils used, the Chinese uses Wok and the French uses a deep pot. This method also enhances the flavour of the meat due to the searing process giving it a different…

For example, a quake that occurred on January 13, 2014 (1/13/2014) would be assigned a numerology value of 3 (1+1+3+2+0+1+4 = 12 = 1+2 = 3).

Some numerology date numbers are stronger or weaker than others, however, the variance is not statistically significant. The table below summarizes the statistical significance of these numbers.

The left portion of this statistical summary (below) shows the numbers (1 to 9) and the quantity of earthquakes for each of those numbers. The orange rectangle reflects the percent above or below the mean for each quantity. The red rectangle shows the statistically significant level of the data. Ducks’ Bonino suffers upper-body injury in win over Flyers

ProHockeyTalk

Anaheim Ducks center Nick Bonino left Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers for good in the second period and did not return, with what the club called an upper-body injury.

Bonino suffered the injury on a hit in the first period, according to Elliott Teaford of the L.A. News Group, then came back in the second. He took four shifts then left the game for good. The Ducks won by a final score of 5-3.

As per Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register, Bonino is listed as day-to-day, with head coach Bruce Boudreau telling reporters he thinks Bonino will play again before the Olympic break.

The Ducks have four games remaining on their schedule before the NHL shuts down for the Sochi Olympics.

Bonino, 25, is having the best season of his young NHL career.

In 56 games – on a very good Ducks team –…

50th anniversary of The Beatles topping US charts: The day that changed pop music forever

Metro

Well, tomorrow will be 50 years ago today, The Beatles conquered the USA. As rhyming couplets go it may well be more Ringo-ish than one of Lennon and McCartney’s finest lyrical pearls.

Yet, the fact remains that, on February 1, 1964, the Fab Four’s I Want To Hold Your Hand took them to the top of the US charts for the first time – and music was never the same again.

Breaking America was no longer merely a British challenge but an achievement – and something to inspire generations of pop acts, right through to the present-day. Success is still measured by whether bands have conquered America.

Next Friday will mark the half-century since 3,000 screaming fans cheered the band off their Pan AM flight PA 101 at JFK airport in New York.

Some 73million people in the US would then tune in to their debut appearance on The Ed…

About 74 people have been killed by the dreaded Boko Haram Islamic sect in two separate attacks in Borno and Adamawa states. Kawuri town in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State was razed completely when the terrorists attacked the town on Sunday, leading to the death of 51 people and a soldier.

At the end of the carnage, more than 300 houses and shops were razed, while scores of policemen and civilians were also injured. Kawuri is one of the big towns in Konduga, situated along Maiduguri-Bama Expressway and about 60 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

About 50 heavily armed terrorists were said to have invaded the town on the market day around 5p.m. and unleashed mayhem on residents and traders. The preservation of the scriptures confirm that they are divine revelation

Reformedontheweb's Blog

calvin.jpg_7MA21605611-0015Objection against Moses and the Prophets. Answer to it.

9. I am aware of what is muttered in corners by certain miscreants, when they would display their acuteness in assailing divine truth. They ask, how do we know that Moses and the prophets wrote the books which now bear their names? Nay, they even dare to question whether there ever was a Moses. Were any one to question whether there ever was a Plato, or an Aristotle, or a Cicero, would not the rod or the whip be deemed the fit chastisement of such folly? The law of Moses has been wonderfully preserved, more by divine providence than by human care; and though, owing to the negligence of the priests, it lay for a short time buried, — from the time when it was found by good King Josiah, (2 Kings 22:8; 2 Chronicles 34:15,) — it has continued in…

Verdict Is An Anonymous ‘Hot Or Not’ For Anything

TechCrunch

What do tech-savvy young people get up to these days? Well, if they’re anything like the two 18 year-old founders of Verdict, a new app for iOS that can be thought of as a ‘Hot or not‘ for just about anything, then when not building apps and websites, they’re interning at VC firms and Microsoft, before putting University on hold to found a startup of their own.

Now, admittedly, Verdict doesn’t feel like the most original app idea. Users snap a photo, upload it to Verdict, add a short description and category, and begin soliciting a thumbs up or thumbs down from other users of the app. Not only does it riff off the old ‘Hot or not’ concept, but also has similarities to U.S.-based polling app Thumb.

The difference, says its young makers, is that activity on Verdict is entirely anonymous. The idea being that…

Nintendo boss and execs take pay cut over Wii U sales

Metro

Shigeru Miyamoto himself has taken a 30% pay cut, as Nintendo reveal their financial results for the last nine months.

Nintendo’s execs have agreed to slash their own pay packets, as they take an unusual amount of personal responsibility for the company’s current troubles.

President and CEO Satoru Iwata is to take a 50 per cent reduction, which is on top of a 50 per cent cut he took in the wake of the 3DS’s weak launch. The 3DS has since recovered but thanks to the Wii U’s performance Iwata’s wallet has not.

This time round the problems are even more serious though, and so the entire board of directors has also taken a 20 per cent pay cut. General manager Genyo Takeda and Mario and Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto went further and took a 30 per cent reduction.

The cuts will stay in place until June, when the board…

Sewage on streets ‘a rights abuse’

Manama, 3 hours, 28 minutes ago

Human rights activists in Bahrain have waded into an ongoing row over sewage flooding in residential neighbourhoods.

They are threatening to take to the streets in protest and say overflowing human waste is an infringement of people’s right to a clean environment, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Plans have been in place since 2007 to remove old septic tanks and install a new sewage system in the older parts of Riffa.

Work began in 2008 and was supposed to be completed by 2010…

Drake Goes Spanish; Teams Up With Romeo Santos

Remember when Drake mentioned in his song “The Motto” that Spanish girls “love him like he’s Aventura?” Apparently Champagne Papi was not only right, he was also predicting the future. A duet was just released featuring him and the King of Spanglish Bachata, Romeo Santos.

Romeo Santos was the lead singer of the ultra successful group Aventura. They were a boy band who sang mostly love songs in Spanglish and grew massive appeal to the young generation of Latinos all over the world.  After the band went their separate ways, Romeo Santos went solo and released an album. In the past Romeo has worked with stars such as Enrique Iglesias, Usher, and Lil Wayne. His latest album is set to be released at the end of February with features by Kevin Hart, Nicki Minaj, Tego Calderon, and of course Drizzy Drake.

Organ Donation Helps Stillwater Family Cope With Tragic Loss

WCCO | CBS Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Twenty-nine-year-old Adam McCloud died in Oct. 2012 after he was beaten at a Stillwater bar.

Eric Richard was convicted of first-degree assault after punching McCloud at Smalley’s Caribbean Barbeque. According to the criminal complaint, McCloud had spilled Richard’s drink and later refused to pay for it.

After McCloud’s death, his family found that they could keep his spirit alive by helping local charities.

Supper time at the Odebrecht household brings the family together. But every so often, they can’t help but think of who’s not at the dinner table.

Tara Odebrecht, McCloud’s sister, says her brother had an undeniable magnetism.

“He was like one of those guys that as soon as he entered the room … all eyes were on him. He just filled the room,” Tara said.

Pictures and memories are all that Tara and her family have left of her younger brother. Sixteen months has…

Bronx Bomber: Carcillo unlikely hero for Rangers at Yankee Stadium

ProHockeyTalk

Of all the unusual things about a hockey game at Yankee Stadium, Daniel Carcillo scoring the game-winning tally ranks pretty high. Then again, this is the house of the Bronx Bombers… so maybe it shouldn’t be surprising that a guy with the nickname “Car Bomb” would nab the deciding goal as the Rangers beat the Isles 2-1 on Wednesday night.

After the game, Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault praised Carcillo, saying the gritty forward brings “bite” to the Dominic Moore-Brian Boyle unit.

“Well, he brings energy like we expected him to bring. He brings bite to that line,” Vigneault said. “That line with Brian and Dom can give us some good, greasy offensive shifts where they’re spending a little time in the other end.

“What they’ve done the last little while, and it’s probably why we’re winning more games right now is that you need a contribution from your whole lineup. We’re getting that line…

A 0.6-Million Year Record of Millennial-Scale Climate Variability in the Tropics†

Kelly Ann Gibson2,*, Larry C. Peterson1DOI: 10.1002/2013GL058846©2014. American Geophysical Union

Abstract

[1] A ~600-kyr long scanning X-ray fluorescence (XRF) record of redox variability from the Cariaco Basin, Venezuela, provides insight into rapid climate change in the tropics over the past five glacial-interglacial cycles. Variations in the sediment accumulation of the redox-sensitive element molybdenum (Mo) can be linked to changes in Intertropical Convergence Zone migration and reveal that millennial-scale variability is a persistent feature of tropical climate over the past 600 kyr, including during periods of interglacial warmth.

A Speck Of Green – Part 1 (Looking for Dad)

Jittery Goat

th88EKLZXM

(Life is made of a collection of memories and good stories.)

Steve drove down a lonely lane, a familiar lane, but not of recent familiarity. It was of times long past, from when a boy. There at the dead-end of the lane was a leveled pile of rubble. Trees, tall and stately graced and surrounded where once a house stood.

It was a reminder of good times, of pleasant times, of simple times. A time when he was the apple of his dad’s eye. A time before he father’s storm of doubt, failure, and rejection.

Beyond the trees and rubble was a newer home; ranch style and well-kept. Scattered in the nearby was construction equipment, a few sheds, a 250 gallon fuel tank and chained to it a barking pit bull raged.

Steve poked and kicked around the rubble of a vacant lot. He looked up as he heard someone…

A Wrinkle in Time: The Graphic Novel, by Madeleine L’ Engle and Hope Larson

Blogging for a Good Book

wrinkleThe 1963 Newberry-award winning novel, A Wrinkle in Time, was a favorite of mine as a child. There was something so gently compelling about the storyline and I could relate so deeply to main character. Teenager Meg Murry doesn’t fit in, in school or seemingly anywhere else. She’s smart but stubborn, and fiercely protective of her family, even with its complete lack of normalcy. She is especially combative when anyone speaks badly about Charles Wallace, her youngest brother, who is definitely an odd child. Their father is missing, and his unexplained disappearance haunts the family, and leads Meg to be even more belligerent as she struggles to deal with the loss and the emptiness of not knowing what happened to him.

Although it has been many years since I last read A Wrinkle in Time, I was immediately swept back into the adventures had by Meg, Charles, their…

Water Contamination A Major Topic At Mine Hearing

WCCO | CBS Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The proposed PolyMet copper-nickel mine’s potential impact on water was a popular subject at Tuesday night’s third and final public hearing on the state’s draft environmental review.

Opponents of the project last week said the review underestimated how much contaminated water could flow from the pit mine, which would be located near Babbitt. Poly Met Mining Corporation also wants to build a processing plant near Hoyt Lakes, both in northeast Minnesota.

The Department of Natural Resources has defended the nearly 2,200-page review, saying the modeling was based on good data, and hundreds of mine supporters who traveled south to St. Paul by bus or car argued Tuesday the project had been thoroughly analyzed.

Ely resort owner and outfitter Joe Baltich also made an appeal to bring jobs, possibly 300 to 360 permanent ones, into the area.

“There’s no doubt that in 2014 that we can…
